In June  2022 Scorpions Racing Team won the 24 hours of Zandvoort!

In total, they've scored three podium finishes with both teams and solo rider Thijs Verbrugghe.

The best-kept secret? The team changed the rules for themselves. From previous editions, they knew that most teams run stints of 1,5 hours.

They started with runs from 2 hours and forced the other teams to respond. After 60 minutes they started pushing and made a breakaway with both teams and one other team. This led to a larger gap between Scorpions and the competitors. With a little more than two hours on the clock, it was safe to change riders ourselves and stay in the lead with both teams.

Because of the strong pace of both teams, we achieved a new distance record of 1030km (42.9km per hour average). The first time a team did more than 1000km in 24 hours on this circuit.

Solo rider Thijs Verbrugghe had a solid start to the race. He was keeping the pace lap after lap. Unfortunately, he had back problems after 6 hours and the pressure on his pedals started to divert from his right and left pedals. He came into the pit lane for a little massage, it solved the problem and he was able to get back into a very good rhythm. After 24 hours only one rider did better than Thijs. Nevertheless, Thijs can be very happy with a second-place!
